Calmerry Review: Can It Improve Student Mental Health?

Picture of the word therapy

Due to their convenience and effectiveness, online mental health platforms have become quite popular nowadays. People in need of emotional support can chat with professional therapists at anytime all from the comfort of their homes. These platforms also offer much more affordable services compared to traditional in-person visits.

One of the newer platforms on the digital therapy scene is Calmerry, which claims to offer affordable and accessible therapy to anyone. Overall, Calmerry has very good reviews. According their website, 88% of clients said Calmerry was as effective or more effective than traditional therapy.

But does that mean their services are right for you and other college students? Continue reading to see the full review of Calmerry and find out if their platform can improve mental health among students.

What is Calmerry?

Calmerry is an online counseling and therapy platform that connects people with fully-licensed therapists that specialize in a wide range of mental health issues. Their services provide fast access to quality care and emotional support. Calmerry is available for clients in all 50 states and can be used on any device. They have an easy-to-navigate homepage that breakdowns key information into different sections.

One useful resource you might want to check out on their website is Calmerry Tests, which allows anyone to test their mental well-being so they can determine if they need therapy. You can also read reviews from Calmerry clients to hear how their experiences went.

Additionally, their user-friendly interface makes it very simple to navigate and has the ability to quickly switch between desktop and the mobile app

How Do Their Services Work?

Calmerry Review

Calmerry acts as a subscription service that can be signed up for through desktop or on their mobile app. Part of the sign up process involves completing an intake interview where you’ll be asked about your mental health concerns along with a few questions about yourself and any previous therapy experience.

Once the form is complete, a summery page of your intake review will appear. The intake form will be used to match you with a therapist that best fits your needs. But before you match with a therapist, you have to choose a subscription plan and pay for your first week of Calmerry services on their payment page.

After payment is made, you’ll be matched with a licensed therapist within the next few hours. You’ll also gain access to your private portal, which will be used to message your therapist, schedule therapy sessions, view subscription details, and view other useful information.

Subscriptions & Pricing

Depending on the subscription plan, Calmerry offers a couple options for communicating with a therapist — messaging and live video sessions. At the time of writing this review, Calmerry offers three different subscription options.

Unfortunately, the subscriptions and prices can only be viewed once you’re in the process of creating an account. Calmerry also offers a weekly version of its Messaging plan for new users to try so they don’t have to commit to paying for a full month.

Messaging Plan

This plan includes unlimited messaging with your therapist who will respond five days per week. A number of helpful resources will also be available in your private portal. The cost of this plan for the first month is $41.99 per week. After the first month, the cost goes up to $56.99 per week.

Messaging + Live Video Plan

For $74.99 per week normally and $51.99 per week for the first month, you’ll receive unlimited messaging, one 30-minute live video session with your therapist each week, and additional tools in your portal.

Messaging + Four Live Video Plan

At $67.49 per week for the first month and $89.99 after that, this is Calmerry’s most expensive plan. But you will get four weekly video sessions with your therapist, unlimited messaging, additional tools, and a personalized therapy plan.

Therapists

All of Calmerry’s therapists and counselors are fully-licensed and have at least 2500 hours clinical experience. They all have a master’s or doctoral degree in their field and are certified by their state’s professional board.

Additionally, each one specializes in various types of therapy such as dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, couples therapy, and gestalt therapy.

Calmerry states that their evidence-based therapy and counseling services can help treat several kinds of mental health issues:

  • PTSD
  • OCD
  • Eating disorders
  • Anger management
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic illness

  • Relationship conflict

Additional Features

Calmerry’s online platform comes with a variety of additional features to help people overcome their mental health issues — flexible scheduling, on-demand appointments, emergency resources, therapy performance details, and more. If you’d like to find a new therapist to talk to, you can switch your current therapist for a new one quickly and easily.

They also offer a super friendly technical support team that can assist in answering any questions or fixing technical difficulties you might have 24/7. Therapists will even develop their own therapy plans with patients to meet their specific needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions people might ask about Calmerry before signing up and subscribing to one of their therapy plans.

Will my privacy be protected?

Yes, client privacy is their number one priority. Calmerry is fully HIPAA compliant, and therapy on the platform is completely confidential. The site also ensures all their counselors abide by the American Psychological Association codes of ethics and record-keeping guidelines.

Do they offer a college discount?

No, at this time, they do not offer a discount for students in college.

Will their services help with my stress and anxiety?

The specialized counselors at Calmerry will most certainly help you manage your stress and anxiety. Cognitive behavioral therapy will be used to replace your harmful thought patterns with positive ones, help you think more rationally, and teach you how to control difficult emotions using relaxation methods.

Do they accept insurance?

Calmerry does not accept insurance. However, you can request a receipt and submit it to your insurance company for a partial or full reimbursement depending on your eligibility.

Is Calmerry Good for College Students?

Between its accessibility, extensive network of therapists, and personalized treatment, it’s hard to find any reasons why this online therapy platform wouldn’t be good for college students. Scheduling an in-person therapy visit can be very difficult for students because of their busy schedules, but with Calmerry, there’s no time barriers.

The flexibility of Calmerry’s online therapy services means you can schedule video sessions and message your therapist at your convenience. The only downside I see is the cost of their services, which might be a bit much for students on a budget — and already have access to free mental health services on campus.

However, Calmerry would still be a much more affordable option compared to in-office visits. Also, receiving professional mental health support from a comfortable and safe environment can be beneficial for students who might feel anxious sitting in a therapist waiting room and talking in person.
