Working out is good for reducing stress when you’re college, but another aspect of your life that it’s good for is giving you motivation. Working out is a necessary activity that you should add into your daily routine because it will give you energy and help keep you focused.

Besides keeping you motivated, it will reduce anxiety, help manage depression, and increase your self-esteem. If you don’t have a gym membership or don’t have much time throughout the day to workout, then just do a few workouts in your dorm room or find places around campus to go for a quick jog.

2. Set Goals

Setting goals for yourself is an excellent way to plan ahead and keep you from getting too overwhelmed. I like to set small goals for myself that I can achieve in a relatively short amount of time and will ultimately help me achieve larger goals. Using smaller goals as the foundation to set yourself up for larger goals is a great strategy to use in college and after your graduate.

 

All those small goals you set for yourself, such as getting a good grade on an exam or completing a project, will all start to build up and help you achieve success in college. I recommend writing down all of these short-term and long-term goals somewhere like a notebook or a spreadsheet so you can stay organized and find satisfaction in all the goals you’ve achieved for yourself. 

3. Don't Burn Yourself Out

College life can be extremely stressful and exhausting at times. If you’re struggling with your academics and just feel a total lack of motivation, then you’re probably suffering from burnout. College burnout can take a toll on any student’s mental health and is something that should be taken very seriously. Fortunately, there’s several things you can do to prevent burnout.

 

The first tip I recommend for eliminating burnout is to reach out to the counselors at your college so you can get some support. Don’t be afraid to contact them because they will help a lot with any mental health issues you’re having.

 

Another tip I recommend is getting the right amount of sleep every night. This is a pretty obvious one, but I know the majority of college students rarely get a full eight hours because of how busy they are. 

 

You should also find time for yourself to relax and recharge. This means sitting outside around your campus everyday, going on a road trip with your friends, or going home for the weekend. Anything you can do to unwind and just take your mind off of your busy college lifestyle will help.

4. Have a Daily Routine

Having a daily routine can help you with every aspect of your life and certainly make you a better college student. The key to a good daily routine is what the routine consists of. In order to have good routine in college, you want to make sure you’re waking up a decent time and finding time to be productive throughout the day so you can study, work on assignments, and exercise.

 

If you stay consistent with a solid routine that makes you more productive everyday, then you’ll be surprised how effective it can be when it comes to motiving you and helping you be more successful in college. 

5. Surround Yourself with the Right People

When I say the right people, I mean people who are going to help motivate you and not give you any negative thoughts. They should be there to support you and lift you up if you ever start to struggle. Having friends like that in college is really nice because all of you can find motivation just by being around one another.

 

It can be easy to get caught up in the temptation to go out and party when you should really be studying for a test or finishing a project. Having supportive and trustworthy friends by your side who help stop that temptation and hold you accountable are the ones you want to have in your life.

6. Be Passionate About Your Major

If you start to realize your lack of motivation stems from the major you’re studying, then you should consider changing it. You should sit down with your college advisors and talk to them about your options if you have don’t see yourself doing anything with your major after college.
